Hatshepsut, one of the most successful pharaohs of all time, ruled Egypt from 1479 to 1458 BCE. Born into a powerful family, she initially co-ruled with her husband Thutmose I, but after his death she took on full pharaonic powers, adopting a male persona and even a false beard.
