There's a type of ice that floats on water, but only in the dead of winter - Apparently.
In January 1963, a team of scientists at the University of Alaska discovered a type of ice called "ice needles" or "ice needles of winter." This rare phenomenon occurs when extremely cold air meets extremely cold water, causing the water to freeze into long, thin ice crystals that can float on the surface of the ocean. This phenomenon is extremely rare, occurring only in the most frigid winter months, and has been documented in only a few locations around the world.
