In 2018, a team of mathematicians at the University of California, Berkeley, discovered the 50th Mersenne prime, a type of prime number that can be written in a specific form. This particular prime number has 24,952 digits and is named M77232917. To put its size into perspective, it's roughly the size of a 10,000-page book. The discovery was verified by the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search (GIMPS), a project that uses distributed computing to search for large prime numbers.
