There's a Map That's Been Accidentally Erasing Countries for Over 100 Years - Apparently.

The Peters Projection map, created by German cartographer Arno Peters in 1974, is a modified equal-area map that attempts to represent the world's geography more accurately. However, due to its design, some countries, like Greenland, appear significantly larger than they actually are, while others, like Australia, are shrunk to tiny proportions. This has led to the map being criticized for its inaccuracies and biases, particularly in its depiction of Africa, which appears much smaller than it is in reality, and its near-total omission of Antarctica.
