Lake Natron in Tanzania is a saltwater lake that has a pH level of around 10.5, making it one of the most alkaline bodies of water on Earth. This extreme pH, combined with the presence of certain minerals, causes the bodies of dead animals that fall into the lake to be calcified, effectively turning them into statues. The lake's unique chemistry has preserved the remains of many animals, including birds, bats, and even small animals, creating a surreal and fascinating sight.
