There's a lake that's a giant sinkhole

Lake Natron in Tanzania is a saltwater lake that's actually a giant sinkhole. It's formed by the intersection of two tectonic plates, which has created a depression that's about 40 kilometers (25 miles) long and 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) deep. The lake's water is so alkaline that it can turn animals that die in it into stone, due to the high concentration of sodium carbonate. This natural phenomenon has been documented by geologists and has been observed to be around since the 1960s.
