Lake Natron, located in Tanzania, is a saline soda lake that's a vital breeding ground for millions of saltwater birds. Due to its unique geology, the lake's pH level is incredibly high, with concentrations of sulfuric acid reaching up to 80% in certain areas. This acidity is so intense that it can preserve dead animals, creating eerie, calcified statues that line the lake's shores. The lake's extreme conditions are a result of the nearby Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano, which releases sodium carbonate into the water, causing the pH to soar.
