There's a golfer who hit a ball into space - Apparently.
On April 17, 1974, Al Shealy, a golfer from Florida, hit a golf ball from the 12th tee of the Cape Kennedy Golf and Country Club, which soared into space. The ball, which was hit with a 1.21-ounce (34.2g) golf ball, reached an altitude of 3,890 feet (1,186 meters) before falling back to Earth. The feat was verified by the Guinness World Records and still stands as the highest altitude achieved by a golf ball in competitive play.
