There's a "Drowning River" in the middle of the Atacama Desert - Apparently.
The Atacama River, located in Chile, is a rare example of a river that flows underground for most of its length, only surfacing briefly before disappearing into the sand. In some years, the river is so dry that it appears to be a dry riverbed, earning it the nickname "the Drowning River." However, during periods of heavy rainfall, the river swells and flows underground for about 30 kilometers (19 miles), only to resurface near the coast, where it empties into the Pacific Ocean.
