There's a 'Drowning River' in the Desert - Apparently.
The Salton Sea, located in California, USA, is the largest lake in the state and was once a thriving resort town. However, due to a series of engineering mishaps in 1905, the New River was diverted into the Salton Sink, causing the lake to swell and eventually become a giant, saline lake. Today, the Salton Sea is a popular spot for boating and fishing, despite being a "drowning river" in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, with some areas experiencing water levels as high as 35 feet (10.6 meters) above the surrounding terrain.
