There is a ship that is intentionally sinking itself.

The MV Rena, a 236-meter cargo ship, ran aground off the coast of New Zealand in 2011. In an effort to prevent an environmental disaster, a hole was deliberately drilled into the ship's hull, allowing water to flood in and cause it to sink. The ship's owners and the New Zealand government agreed to the plan, which was completed in 2013. The resulting "sacrifice" was considered a necessary measure to prevent further damage to the surrounding ecosystem.
