The World's Smallest Hurricane Was a Tiny Whirlwind

In 1979, a small-scale hurricane, known as Tropical Storm Claudette, made landfall in the United States. But what's remarkable is that a tiny whirlwind, just 6.2 kilometers (3.9 miles) in diameter, was recorded on September 8, 1968, in Florida. This miniature hurricane, dubbed "Hurricane Alex," is officially recognized as the smallest tropical cyclone in recorded history. It was so small that it would have fit inside the state of Rhode Island.
