The World's Largest Ship to Ever Sail Was a British Seaplane Carrier

The HMS Hermes, a British seaplane carrier, was launched in 1919 and measured an astonishing 1,800 feet in length, making it the largest ship to ever sail. Commissioned during World War I, the ship was originally designed to carry 18 aircraft and was later converted into a fleet carrier during World War II. Despite its massive size, the HMS Hermes was not without its limitations, struggling with stability issues and eventually being decommissioned in 1953.
