The USS Requin was a World War II submarine turned into a floating research station

The USS Requin (SS 481) was a Balao-class submarine commissioned in 1944. After the war, it was converted into a floating research station and now serves as the National Aviary's Aquarium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The submarine has been converted into a habitat for a variety of aquatic animals, including fish, birds, and even a 4,000-gallon shark tank. Today, it remains one of the few former naval vessels repurposed as a research and educational facility.
