The USS Hornet, a aircraft carrier, was converted into a hospital ship in 1969 and served in the Vietnam War. It had a crew of over 1,000, including 300 medical personnel, and was equipped with 25 operating rooms and 1,500 hospital beds. The ship treated over 8,000 wounded soldiers during its deployment, including many who were wounded during the infamous Operation Lam Son 719 in 1971. The USS Hornet's medical team included 16 surgeons, 14 anesthesiologists, and 24 nurses.
