Harold Abel, a British athlete, completed the 1983 Boston Marathon in 2 hours 58 minutes and 36 seconds with the aid of prosthetic limbs. Abel, who was born without legs below the knees, had learned to run on his hands. His achievement was recognized by the Guinness World Records, marking him as the first amputee to complete a marathon. This remarkable feat has yet to be beaten.
