The Shortest Recorded Insect Life Span - Apparently.
The Antlion (Neuroptera: Myrmeleontidae) has the shortest recorded insect life span, with some specimens living only 4-5 hours. This brief existence is due to the fact that these larvae are predators that feed on ants, which they capture and kill immediately upon hatching. Found in deserts and other dry regions, Antlion larvae are highly specialized and have a very short window of opportunity to survive and reproduce before they die.
