The Norse God of Wisdom Had a Missing Eye... for a Reason
In Norse mythology, Odin, the All-Father and God of Wisdom, had a missing eye that he traded with the giant Mimir for a draught of wisdom. According to the Poetic Edda, a medieval Icelandic manuscript, Odin was willing to sacrifice his eye to gain the knowledge he sought. This unusual trade is recorded in the poem "Hávamál" and has been a subject of interpretation among scholars, who see it as a symbol of Odin's willingness to sacrifice his own power for wisdom.
