The Mona Lisa's Smile is a Puzzle - Apparently.
The Mona Lisa's enigmatic smile is not just a matter of artistic interpretation, but also a real-life mystery. In 2019, researchers from the Louvre used 3D scanning and computer simulations to study the painting's smile. They discovered that the smile is asymmetrical, with the left side of the mouth curving upwards more than the right side. This unusual asymmetry is due to Leonardo da Vinci's use of a technique called "sfumato," which creates a soft, hazy effect by layering thin glazes of paint.
