The Mathemagician's Miscalculation - Apparently.
In 1889, mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, who would later become famous for his contributions to number theory, submitted a paper to the Journal of the Indian Mathematical Society. In it, he introduced a mathematical function that, when calculated, resulted in a number with 17 digits. This was significant because, at the time, most mathematicians were working with numbers with no more than 10 digits, and the calculation of Ramanujan's function was a major achievement in the field.
