On July 21, 1913, El Azizia, Libya reached a scorching temperature of 136.4°F (58°C), a record that stood for 90 years until it was disputed in 2003. The temperature reading was taken by an Italian meteorologist, Serafino Rasi, using a thermometer placed in a shady area, which may have contributed to the unusually high reading. This extreme heat event was verified by the World Meteorological Organization, making it the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth.
