The Great Blue Hole is not a single sinkhole, but a series of underwater caves

The Great Blue Hole is a large underwater sinkhole located in the center of the Lighthouse Reef Atoll in Belize. However, what's less well-known is that it's not a single, continuous depression, but rather a series of interconnected underwater caves and chambers. In 1963, a team of scientists from the University of Cambridge conducted a thorough survey of the site and found that the hole is actually a complex system of caverns that stretch for over 300 meters. This discovery has helped to increase our understanding of the geological history of the region.
