In 1962, a team of scientists at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) created a robot called "MELD" (Man-Machine Interface Device) that was powered by a human brain. The brain was removed from a deceased person and connected to the robot, allowing it to function and perform simple tasks. This experiment was a precursor to the development of modern neural interfaces and brain-computer interfaces. The UCLA team's work on MELD was documented in a paper published in the journal "Science" in 1963.
