The First Robot Was Built Over 2,000 Years Ago - Apparently.
The ancient Greek mathematician and engineer Hero of Alexandria is credited with creating the first known robot, a device called the "Automaton," around 250 AD. This mechanical device was capable of opening and closing temple doors, and was powered by a combination of pulleys and cables. The Automaton is described in Hero's book "Pneumatica," which was rediscovered in the 17th century and provides a glimpse into the early development of robotics.
