The First Robot Was Built for a King - Apparently.

In 1726, French inventor Jacques de Vaucanson created a mechanical duck that could swim, drink, and even quack. The device was powered by a series of pulleys and levers, and was so realistic that it was said to have fooled even the French king, Louis XV. Vaucanson's mechanical duck was a precursor to modern robotics and a testament to the ingenuity of 18th-century inventors. Vaucanson went on to create other mechanical devices, including a flute player and a drummer, solidifying his place in the history of robotics.
