The First Robot Was an Artistic Genius

In 1920, French inventor and artist, Jacques Vaucanson, created a mechanical duck that could not only swim and walk but also quack, flap its wings, and even perform a remarkable feat of art: draw a picture of a flower. This mechanical duck, one of several automatons Vaucanson created, was a precursor to modern robotics and demonstrated the intersection of art and technology. Vaucanson's inventions were widely acclaimed in his time and are still studied by robotics historians today.
