The first robot to play chess was invented in 1967
In 1967, a team of engineers at Stanford Research Institute (SRI) created a robot named MAC (Method for Automatic Computer chess) to play chess against human opponents. MAC was a computer-controlled robot that used a special chess-playing algorithm to make moves. It played its first game in 1967, beating a human opponent in a tournament match. The robot's programming was so advanced that it was able to defeat several top-ranked chess players in the following years.
