The First Computer Bug Was an Actual Insect - Apparently.
In 1947, a team of engineers working on the Harvard Mark II computer found a moth stuck in one of the relays. The team taped the moth to the computer log and wrote "First actual case of bug being found" next to it. This incident marked the origin of the term "bug" in computing, which was first used in 1947 and has since become a common term for any technical glitch or error. The moth itself is now preserved in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
