The First Computer Bug Was an Actual Insect - Apparently.
In 1947, a team of engineers working on the Harvard Mark II computer discovered a moth stuck in one of the relay switches, causing the system to malfunction. The team taped the moth to the computer log with the note "First actual case of bug being found." This event marked the beginning of using the term "bug" to describe errors in computer programming. The log entry, dated June 1947, has been verified and is now stored at the Smithsonian Institution.
