The First Computer Bug Was an Actual Insect - Apparently.
In 1947, a team of engineers working on the Harvard Mark II computer discovered a moth stuck in one of the relay switches, causing the machine to malfunction. The team taped the moth to the computer log with the note "First actual case of bug being found." This incident led to the term "bug" being adopted as a metaphor for any technical glitch. This incident is well-documented in the Harvard Mark II's log book, and a replica of the moth can be found at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
