The First Computer Bug Was a Real Insect - Apparently.
In 1947, a team of engineers working on the Harvard Mark II computer discovered a moth stuck in one of the relays, causing the machine to malfunction. They taped the moth to the computer log and noted "First actual case of bug being found." This incident marked the origin of the term "computer bug," which has since become an industry standard. The moth itself is now preserved at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
