In 1907, French automobile pioneer Charles Rolls (of Rolls-Royce fame) and French aristocrat Georges Duruy embarked on a 150-day, 30,000-mile journey in a 1907 Mercedes 35 HP, becoming the first car to circumnavigate the globe. The duo faced numerous challenges, including a near-fatal accident in the Himalayas, and had to rely on makeshift repairs and local ingenuity to overcome mechanical issues. Their journey ended in Paris, where they were greeted as heroes.
