The First AI Program Was Written in 1951 to Play Tic-Tac-Toe - Apparently.

In 1951, a British computer scientist named Alexander Douglas created the first artificial intelligence program, called OXO, to play a game of Tic-Tac-Toe. The program was a simple neural network that could make moves based on a set of pre-programmed rules. OXO was demonstrated at the 1951 Computer Exhibition in London, where it played against human opponents, winning most of the time. This early AI achievement predates the development of more complex AI systems by several decades.
