The First AI Program Was Written in 1951

In 1951, a computer scientist named Alan Turing created the Automatic Computing Engine (ACE) to play a version of tic-tac-toe, a game of strategy and logic. Turing's program, called the "Turing Test," was designed to evaluate a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human. The test is still used today to assess a machine's capacity for thought and reasoning. Turing's work laid the foundation for the development of artificial intelligence as we know it today.
