The Danakil Depression is home to a lake of acid

The Danakil Depression in Ethiopia is one of the harshest environments on Earth, with temperatures often reaching 64°C (147°F). Lying within this inhospitable region is Lake Afrera, a saltwater lake that is so acidic it can dissolve metal. With a pH level of around 1, the lake is roughly the same acidity as lemon juice. This extreme environment is due to the presence of sulfuric acid, which is produced by volcanic activity in the area.
