The ancient Sumerians had a goddess of war, but also a goddess of beer - Apparently.
In ancient Sumeria, around 1800 BCE, the goddess Ninkasi was revered as the patron deity of beer and brewing. Her name is even inscribed on a 4,000-year-old clay tablet, known as the Hymn to Ninkasi, which contains one of the oldest known recipes for beer. The tablet's text describes how to make a sweet, honey-based beer using barley, honey, and fermented barley wort, and even includes a prayer to Ninkasi for the successful brew.
