The ancient Greeks worshipped a goddess of sleep

In ancient Greece, Hypnos (Greek: Ὑπνος) was a prominent god of sleep, often depicted as a bearded man carrying a poppy-filled staff. He was believed to be the brother of Thanatos, the god of death, and the son of Nyx, the goddess of night.
