Ireland's Ancient Monastic Town

The 6th-century monastic town of Skellig Michael, off the west coast of Ireland, was a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to a community of monks who built elaborate stone structures, including two beehive huts. The site, which was abandoned in the 12th century, was rediscovered in the 1970s and features 600-year-old ruins that are remarkably well-preserved. Skellig Michael was even referenced in the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the location of the Jedi Temple on the planet Ahch-To.
