Glowing Mushrooms Grow in the Dark - Apparently.
In the depths of the Oregon Redwood Forest, a type of mushroom called Armillaria ostoyae grows in complete darkness, emitting a greenish-blue glow. This phenomenon is known as "foxfire" and is caused by a chemical reaction between the mushroom's cells and oxygen. The mushrooms grow in a symbiotic relationship with the forest's roots, and can live for up to 2,400 years. This fact was first documented by a team of scientists in 2011, who discovered the glowing mushrooms growing in a 2.2-acre patch of forest.
