Dublin City Council once had a pigeon control department - Apparently.
In the 1960s, Dublin City Council employed a pigeon control officer to manage the city's estimated 30,000-strong pigeon population. The officer, equipped with a special permit, would cull pigeons using humane traps and lethal methods. This unusual department was established due to concerns over the health risks posed by pigeon droppings, which could spread diseases like histoplasmosis.
